All Sorts and Conditions of Men: An Impossible Story
1882
All Sorts and Conditions of Men: An Impossible Story, published in 1882 by Walter Besant, is a novel that explores the stark contrasts between social classes in London's East End. The narrative follows Angela Messenger, a wealthy heiress determined to improve the lives of the poor, and Harry Goslett, a young man uncovering his own complex heritage. This work serves as both a romance and a critique of Victorian philanthropy, ultimately inspiring real-life social reform with the establishment of 'The People's Palace.'
