It was in Paris that Vikelas shifted his focus from business to literature, producing a range of novels, short stories, and essays that garnered him significant acclaim. His literary contributions not only enriched Greek literature but also reflected the cultural currents of his time. Vikelas's most notable achievement came in 1894 when he was selected to represent Greece at a congress convened by Pierre de Coubertin, which aimed to revive the ancient Olympic Games. His leadership as the first president of the International Olympic Committee from 1894 to 1896 was instrumental in organizing the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896. This historic event marked a significant moment in sports history, and Vikelas's involvement underscored his commitment to promoting Greek culture and heritage. He remained in Athens until his death in 1908, leaving behind a legacy as a key figure in both the literary and athletic realms.
