Alma White

Alma White was an American author and religious leader, known for her fervent advocacy of the Pentecostal movement and her role as the first female bishop in the United States. Born in 1862, she became a prominent figure in the early 20th-century Holiness movement, which emphasized personal piety and a direct experience of God. White founded the Pillar of Fire Church in 1901 and used her writing as a means to spread her religious beliefs and experiences. One of her notable works, 'With God in the Yellowstone,' reflects her deep appreciation for nature and her belief in the divine presence in the natural world. This work, along with her other writings, often combined elements of travel narrative with spiritual reflection, showcasing her unique perspective on the intersection of faith and the American landscape. White's contributions to religious literature and her pioneering role in church leadership have left a lasting impact on the Pentecostal movement and the broader landscape of American religion, particularly in advocating for women's roles in ministry.
