The Merchant of Venice
In the bustling, mercantile world of Venice, the young Bassanio desperately needs funds to court the wealthy heiress Portia. He turns to his dear friend, the respected merchant Antonio, who, with all his capital tied up at sea, seeks a loan from Shylock, a Jewish moneylender. A long-standing animosity between Antonio and Shylock culminates in a chilling bond: if Antonio defaults, Shylock demands a pound of his flesh. As Bassanio wins Portia's heart, news arrives that Antonio's ships are lost, plunging him into a perilous legal battle that threatens his life and exposes the dark underbelly of Venetian justice and prejudice.
