Timon of Athens
In the opulent heart of Athens, the magnanimous Lord Timon is renowned for his boundless generosity, showering his friends, artists, and admirers with lavish gifts and financial aid. His cynical friend Apemantus and loyal steward Flavius repeatedly warn him that his generosity is being exploited and that his fortune is dwindling. Timon, blinded by his own benevolence and the flattery of his hangers-on, dismisses their concerns until the inevitable arrives: his creditors, once his closest companions, demand their debts, revealing the hollowness of his relationships and the catastrophic extent of his financial ruin. Stripped of his wealth and betrayed by those he trusted, Timon retreats into a bitter misanthropy, cursing humanity and the very city that once adored him.
