The Bible, Douay-Rheims, Book 17: Tobias: The Challoner Revision

The Book of Tobias is one of the Bible's most arresting narratives: a young man journeys into a dangerous world armed only with faith, and an angel walks beside him in disguise. Tobias leaves his blind father and faithful mother in Nineveh to collect a debt, but what he finds is far more transformative. Along the road, he battles a colossal fish, frees a young woman bound by tragedy, and discovers that his mysterious companion is no mere traveler. This is adventure literature elevated by divine purpose, where every trial tests not just courage but the depths of devotion. The Douay-Rheims translation, with its scholarly fidelity to the Latin Vulgate, gives the text a gravitas and formality that echoes through centuries of Catholic biblical tradition. The Challoner revision refined this into the English that shaped generations of faithful readers. Here is a story of family, fidelity, and the mysterious ways God works through human行动.
