Spy
Published in 1821, 'The Spy' is James Fenimore Cooper's second novel and is inspired by Sir Walter Scott's Waverly series. The story follows Harvey Birch, a man posing as a loyalist while secretly serving as a spy for George Washington during the American Revolution. This novel is notable for being one of the first successful works of American fiction, contributing to Cooper's fame and wealth.
