Rollo in Holland
What if your first trip abroad was to a country of frozen canals and spinning windmills? Young Rollo, staying at a London hotel with his Uncle George, faces a delightful dilemma: should he visit Holland in winter to see the famous skating, or summer to watch windmills turn against green fields? The waiting itself becomes an adventure, filled with conversations about the peculiar Dutch customs, the extraordinary landscape of canals and dikes, and the sheer novelty of a country where boats are highways and ice is a playground. Abbott understood that children see the world with fresh eyes, and Rollo's Holland is a place of genuine wonder. Through the boy's dialogues with his uncle and mother, Abbott weaves practical travel wisdom with the excitement of a child encountering the unfamiliar. It's a gentle, old-fashioned story about the pleasure of anticipation and the small dramas of planning a journey across continental boundaries.
