Oliver Twist; or, The Parish Boy's Progress is the second novel by Charles Dickens, published in 1838. It follows the life of Oliver, an orphan who faces hardship in a workhouse before escaping to London. There, he encounters the Artful Dodger and Fagin, becoming unwittingly involved in a gang of juvenile pickpockets. The novel is notable for its critical portrayal of social issues and the plight of the poor in Victorian England.
