Old Adam, written by Arnold Bennett and originally published in 1910, follows Edward Henry Machin, a man from the English Midlands who rises to prosperity. After a windfall from a rubber share speculation, he finds himself unfulfilled and seeks change. His journey leads him to London and the theatrical world, exploring themes of ambition and dissatisfaction. The novel is also known as The Regent.
