Maida's Little Shop

What happens when a wealthy girl is given the chance to be ordinary? Maida Westabrook has spent her life confined by delicate health and doting servants, until surgery gives her the ability to walk. Now restless and longing for purpose, she convinces her worried father to buy her a small shop in Charlestown, Massachusetts. But there's one condition: she must never reveal who she is. Posing as an ordinary girl, Maida discovers something startling, the joy of being valued for who she actually is, not her father's fortune. For the first time, she has real friends who see her as a person, not an heiress. This tender early 20th-century story captures the quiet revolution of a child learning that happiness isn't found in wealth, but in genuine connection and the satisfaction of working for something you love.
