Machine

The Machine is a play by Upton Sinclair, published in 1912 as part of his collection Plays of Protest. The narrative follows a rich man's daughter who is introduced to the harsh realities of the society she inhabits by Socialist activists. This work reflects Sinclair's progressive viewpoints and critiques social inequality, similar to his more famous novel, The Jungle. The play features a cast of characters that include a magazine writer, a parlor Socialist, and a girl from the slums, illustrating the stark contrasts in social class.
