Arms and the Man
Arms and the Man is a comedy written by George Bernard Shaw in 1894, set during the Serbo-Bulgarian War of 1885. The play follows Raina Petkoff, who is torn between her fiancé, the heroic Sergius Saranoff, and the pragmatic Swiss mercenary Captain Bluntschli, who surprises her with his unconventional approach to warfare. Shaw's work critiques romantic notions of war and heroism while exploring themes of love and class through its engaging characters and witty dialogue.
