Arms and the Man
Amidst the farcical backdrop of the 1885 Serbo-Bulgarian War, the idealistic Raina Petkoff, a young woman enamored with heroic narratives and her dashing fiancé, Major Sergius Saranoff, finds her romantic illusions shattered by the sudden appearance of Captain Bluntschli. This pragmatic Swiss mercenary, a self-proclaimed 'chocolate soldier' who carries sweets instead of cartridges, scrambles into her bedroom to escape capture. Raina, initially appalled by his unheroic candor and utter lack of chivalry, nonetheless shelters him, setting in motion a comedic unraveling of societal pretenses, the absurdity of war, and the true nature of love.
