Eadweard Muybridge

Eadweard Muybridge was an influential English photographer renowned for his groundbreaking contributions to the study of motion and the development of motion-picture projection. Born Edward James Muggeridge in Kingston upon Thames, England, he emigrated to the United States at the age of 20, initially working as a bookseller in New York City before moving to San Francisco. After a near-fatal stagecoach accident in Texas, he returned to England to recuperate, where he discovered his passion for photography. Upon his return to San Francisco in 1867, Muybridge quickly gained recognition for his stunning large-format photographs of Yosemite Valley and began producing popular stereographs that captivated audiences of the time.
