When the Spoilers Came
The humans came to Mars not to learn, but to take. In the red city of Sudal, the peace-loving Martians have built something rare: a civilization without conquest, where resources belong to all and power is shared. But Earth's visitors see only exploitation, and the balance of Sudal threatens to break beneath the weight of human hunger. This is 1950s science fiction doing what it does best - using the alien to illuminate the familiar. Williams builds Sudal as a mirror: these Martians live without the hierarchies and violence humans carry everywhere they go. When the spoilers arrive, the question becomes not just whether the Martians can survive, but whether the humans can recognize what they're destroying.
