The Young Ship Builder

The Young Ship Builder, written by Sophie Swett in the early 20th century, follows the Dill family as they navigate complex family dynamics after their mother returns with two new half-siblings. Narrated by Bathsheba, one of the elder siblings, the story centers on her brother Cyrus, who struggles between his aspirations for a ministry and the responsibilities of caring for his family. The novel explores themes of sibling relationships, the challenges of blended families, and the emotional toll of familial expectations.
