The Plunderer

Dick Townsend has inherited half a mine. The Croix d'Or. The name promises gold, but the Colorado backcountry promises something else entirely: violence, betrayal, and the particular cruelty of men who have nothing left to lose. Partnered with Bill Mathews, a weathered prospector who knows the mountains like his own scars, Dick heads into a landscape where the real treasure is not necessarily in the earth. A showdown at a roadhouse with the notorious Bully Presby sets the tone for their journey, where disgruntled former miners and competing claims make every mile more dangerous than the last. Roy Norton, who later saw his work adapted for the silent screen, writes with the kinetic energy of the frontier itself. This is a story about what men will do when the law is a day's ride away and the stakes are measured in gold. It is about inheritance, not just of property, but of the brutal calculations required to survive in a world that rewards neither mercy nor patience. For readers who want their Westerns with real teeth and no sentimental illusions.
