Sonnie-Boy's People

In a small coastal town at the edge of the Atlantic, a boy named Greg known as Sonnie-Boy spends his days by the water, his imagination as vast as the sea itself. When a mysterious stranger named Mr. Necker arrives in town and takes an interest in the boy, Sonnie-Boy finds himself drawn into a world of adult secrets and quiet heroism. Around him, his family navigates the rhythms of everyday life: his father Greg returns from work to the warmth of home, his Aunt Marie stitches stories into the clothes she makes, and the community pulses with the pride of a people who know both the bounty and the danger of the ocean. As Sonnie-Boy's small boat sets sail with its homemade battle-flag, the novel asks what legacy means to a child, what duty looks like in ordinary lives, and what patriotism truly costs. Connolly writes with the tender eye of someone who remembers childhood as a country worth protecting, rendering Sonnie-Boy's world with the soft glow of late afternoon light on water. This is a story for readers who believe that the smallest people often hold the largest truths.
