Social Statics
Social Statics, published in 1851 by Herbert Spencer, examines the conditions necessary for human happiness and societal stability. Spencer introduces the concept of 'fitness' in relation to social evolution, arguing that individuals must adapt to their social environment to achieve harmony. Although he later coined the phrase 'survival of the fittest' in his 1864 work, this book lays the groundwork for his ideas on social dynamics and has been influential in libertarian political philosophy. Economist Murray Rothbard hailed it as a pivotal work in the field.
