Quality Street
Quality Street is a play by J. M. Barrie, written in 1901, that follows two sisters, Phoebe and Susan Throssel, who establish a school for children when their local doctor leaves to fight in the Napoleonic Wars. After ten years, the doctor returns, believing life has paused for him, unaware of the changes that have taken place. The play is notable for its exploration of gender roles and the impact of war on community life, and it inspired the naming of Quality Street chocolates. Katharine Hepburn starred in a film adaptation in 1937.
