On the Edge of the Arctic; Or, an Aeroplane in Snowland
In the summer of 1910, two Canadian boys named Norman Grant and Roy Moulton have built their own aeroplane from scratch. Named the Gitchie Manitou, their gleaming machine is about to debut at Calgary's legendary Stampede, where thousands have gathered to witness the marvels of flight. But the boys have bigger ambitions than local exhibition: they intend to prove their creation can survive the ultimate test, the frozen reaches of the Arctic wilderness where no aeroplane has ever flown. On the eve of their departure, they meet Count Paul Zept, a wealthy young newcomer to Calgary whose fortune and daring make him an intriguing addition to their expedition. What begins as a prideful demonstration of youthful ingenuity becomes something far more consequential: a journey into the unknown where the boys must pit their courage against brutal elements, mechanical failure, and the vast silence of the frozen North. The romance of the Canadian Northwest comes alive in this tale of two friends who dared to imagine a machine could carry them to the edge of the world.
