A Cruise in the Sky; Or, The Legend of the Great Pink Pearl

When young Andy Leighton and his mother arrive in the small Florida town of Valkaria following the death of his eccentric inventor uncle, they expect nothing more than a modest inheritance and closure. Instead, Andy discovers his uncle's workshop: a treasure trove of revolutionary aeroplane designs, a mysterious model of a guiding tail, and an unfinished letter to a famous aeronautic engineer. The uncle's final secret, however, is the legend of the Great Pink Pearl, a legendary gem hidden somewhere in the world, and the means to find it: an airship built for the quest. With Captain Joe Anderson, a rugged friend of the uncle, Andy takes to the skies in a fantastical flying vessel, pursuing a treasure that has captivated dreamers for generations. The journey tests his courage and ingenuity at every turn, as strange sights and dangers fill the heavens above. Written in 1911, when flight itself was still a breathtaking novelty, this is early aviation adventure at its most imaginative: a boy's coming-of-age story lifted by daring, wonder, and the open sky. It will appeal to readers who crave old-fashioned adventure with a touch of romantic invention.
