Olivia in India

Published in 1922, 'Olivia in India' by O. Douglas is a novel presented as a series of letters from the protagonist, Olivia, detailing her journey through early 20th-century India. The narrative captures her experiences aboard the S.S. Scotia and her observations of life in colonial Calcutta, blending humor with reflections on cultural encounters and personal growth. While the book offers a vivid portrayal of India during a time of British colonial rule, it has faced criticism for its seemingly idyllic depiction of the society marked by oppression. The work stands out for its unique format and insightful commentary on travel and relationships.
