Mitz and Fritz of Germany

In the toymaker's workshop of Nuremberg, the city of gingerbread and dreams, two siblings dream different dreams. Mitzi and her younger brother Fritz share a childhood steeped in sawdust and song, but while their father's hands shape wooden wonders, Fritz's heart belongs to music. When their father scolds the boy for practicing during work hours, the stage is set for a story about the ache between what we're told to be and who we really are. This early 20th-century adventure follows the Toymaker children across Germany, where cultural landmarks rise like chapters in a living textbook and music becomes both rebellion and revelation. Alongside their loyal dog Frank, Mitzi and Fritz navigate familial expectations, discover the weight of passion, and learn that following your heart sometimes means disappointing the people you love most. It's a window into a vanished world of European childhood, where children moved through cities that no longer exist in the way Brandeis captured them.
