Linnet: A Romance

Two English travelers arrive in the Tyrol with the kind of dangerous expectations that only romantics carry. Florian Wood has dreamed of Alpine villages untouched by the modern world, where peasants sing in meadows and time moves like honey. His companion Will Deverill is more clear-eyed, and perhaps for that reason, less likely to find what he seeks. They find Zell transformed by commerce, its idylls parceled out to tourists. But in a nearby village, Florian encounters Linnet, a singer whose voice and spirit capture exactly what he imagined he wanted. What unfolds is a romance tangled in the gap between fantasy and truth. Allen wrote with sharp observation and dry wit, making this more than a simple love story, it's a knowing meditation on how we see what we want to see, and what happens when the landscape refuses to cooperate with our longing.
