Les Bases De La Morale Évolutionniste

One of the most controversial intellectual projects of the Victorian era: Herbert Spencer's attempt to ground morality itself in the engine of evolution. Written as traditional religious authority crumbles across Europe, this 1905 work asks whether the laws of nature might replace the laws of God as the foundation for right and wrong. Spencer argues that moral principles are not divine commandments etched in stone but rather adaptive behaviors that evolve alongside human societies, shaped by the same ruthless logic of survival and adaptation that Darwin identified in the natural world. The stakes are enormous: if Spencer is right, then morality itself becomes a science, subject to the same laws of progress and decay as any living organism. The book pulses with the confidence of an age that believed it had finally cracked the code of existence, even as it lays the groundwork for ideas that would curdle into some of the twentieth century's darkest ideologies. For readers interested in the history of ideas, the origins of evolutionary psychology, or the strange afterlife of Darwinism in moral philosophy, this remains an unsettling and essential artifact.
