Lavender and Old Lace

Lavender and Old Lace is a romance novel by Myrtle Reed, first published in 1902. The story follows Ruth Thorne, who leaves her city life to stay with her eccentric Aunt Jane in a nostalgic country house. As Ruth navigates her new surroundings, she uncovers family secrets and explores themes of belonging and self-discovery, all while developing a romantic connection with newcomer Carl Winfield. Reed's witty prose and ability to evoke deep emotions make this work notable in early 20th-century American fiction.
