In the Mayor's Parlour
The newly elected Mayor of Pilcaster is dead in his study, killed by a single blow to the head. He won his office by one vote, and had been fighting against the borough's entrenched corruption. When his young nephew arrives from London, he finds a town full of secrets and a web of political graft that stretches back decades. Every alibi is suspect. Every neighbor has something to hide. The mayor's reform program threatened powerful men, and someone wanted him silenced. As the investigation deepens, the nephew must navigate a labyrinth of deception where the killer could be anyone: the borough clerk, the local doctor, the grieving widow, or someone even closer to home. The solution, when it arrives, is as surprising as it is inevitable.
