The Herapath Property
When Jacob Herapath, wealthy property developer and Member of Parliament, is discovered dead in his office with a revolver at his temple, the case seems straightforward. But the timeline defies logic: his driver dropped him at home an hour after the supposed moment of death, where witnesses describe him taking tea and sandwiches in his study. Either someone is lying about when Herapath died, or something far stranger has occurred at 34 Herapath Street. Selwood, the current secretary, and Peggie Wynne, the dead man's devoted niece, find themselves navigating a house full of suspects: a former secretary whose motives remain opaque, an associate named Tertius who seems to know too much, and a will that may be forged. As layers of the Herapath family's past begin to surface, the question becomes not just how Herapath died, but who benefits from his death and what secrets drove him to his end. Fletcher constructs his puzzle with surgical precision, each revelation raising fresh questions until the final piece clicks into place.
