Behind the Green Door

It's 1942, and sixteen-year-old Penny Parker is not about to let a pesky libel lawsuit ruin her ski trip to Pine Top resort. Her father is being sued by a wealthy hotelier named Harvey Maxwell, and while the adults fret over lawyers and court dates, Penny spots something strange: a mysterious green door that only opens by invitation, a girl locked in a cabin, and competitors mysteriously trying to shut the whole resort down. Armed with nothing but curiosity and a reporter's instinct, she dives into the snow-covered mystery. The story pulses with wartime energy, new cars, furs, the thrill of scooping a rival newspaper, all while Penny navigates real danger to clear her father's name. This is the kind of book where a teenage girl solves crimes between skiing runs and wins a brand-new car for her trouble. It's breezy, propulsive, and unapologetically fun: a pulp-era mystery that treats its teenage heroine as genuinely clever rather than merely plucky. Fans of Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys will find a kindred spirit in Penny's scrappy determination.
