Julia Seton was an American physician, lecturer, and author who played a pivotal role in popularizing numerology in the early 20th century. After graduating from medical school, she transitioned from traditional medicine to the metaphysical realm, modernizing the concept of 'the Science of Names and Numbers' into what is now recognized as numerology. Her influence extended to a significant following, with estimates suggesting that she represented around a million and a half people, including thousands who openly identified as believers in her teachings. Seton was a key figure in the New Thought movement, which emphasized the power of thought and positive thinking as a means to improve one's life and circumstances. In addition to her contributions to numerology, Seton was a prominent advocate for New Thought as a religion, asserting its relevance to contemporary society. She served as the president of various New Thought schools across major cities, including Boston and New York, and founded the New Civilization Church in Santa Monica, California, in 1905. Her work not only shaped the understanding of numerology but also helped to establish a framework for New Thought philosophy, leaving a lasting legacy in the fields of spirituality and self-help.
