Woodcliff

The beach at Woodcliff becomes the stage for one girl's moral awakening. Madeline Hamilton, a headstrong heiress raised on indulgence and entitlement, watches a poor Scottish boy named Roland Bruce stand alone against two well-dressed bullies defending children who cannot defend themselves and something shifts. When Roland later risks his life to stop her runaway horse and then refuses any reward, Madeline encounters a kind of nobility she has never encountered in her gilded world. What follows is the slow, often painful unlearning of vanity and willfulness. Her father's indulgence and her aunt's snobbery cannot prepare her for the classroom where discipline feels like cruelty, where she must swallow pride and study alongside girls she considers beneath her. A stolen exam, a public accusation, a storm that forces her to listen to Roland's ancestors, a humble cottage visit that reveals where true worth resides these are the crucibles that reshape her. McKeever writes with sharp observation about class and genuine insight into how pride dies and empathy is born.
