Wilson's Tales of the Borders and of Scotland, Volume 10

A rich tapestry of Scottish folklore, tradition, and vernacular storytelling from the late Victorian era. This tenth volume gathers tales rooted in the Border regions and the Scottish Highlands, where myth, superstition, and everyday life interweave. The opening story, 'The First-Foot,' introduces readers to Nelly Rogers, a woman whose faith in the New Year's first visitor shapes her family's fortunes. When a squinting sailor arrives bearing news, ordinary celebrations become charged with destiny. These stories capture Scotland's oral traditions, its eccentric characters, its local customs, and the particular humor and heart of Scottish rural life. For readers who delight in folklore collections, regional literature, and the vanished world of nineteenth-century storytelling, these tales offer an authentic glimpse into a culture where superstition and sensibility walk hand in hand.
