White Heather: A Novel (volume 1 of 3)

White Heather: A Novel, first published in 1885, is a fictional work set in the Scottish Highlands that follows Mr. Hodson, an American gentleman seeking escape from London. The narrative explores themes of social class and human relationships, particularly through the character of Ronald Strang, a gamekeeper navigating his lower social position. As Hodson interacts with the locals, including the young Meenie Douglas, the story hints at romantic entanglements and deeper emotional currents amidst the backdrop of Scotland's natural beauty.
