We Ten: Or, the Story of the Roses

Ten children. One house. No mother. When Jack Rose opens the door to the family council, you step into a home alive with noise, argument, and fierce love. The Rose siblings debate Felix's future with the passion of a parliament, none more vocal than the brothers who will do anything to help their lame but brilliant brother achieve his dreams of college. Jack narrates their chaotic household with wry affection: the squabbles, the alliances, the heartbreak hidden beneath teasing. This is a novel about what it means to be raised by sibling hands when parental expectations and grief collide. The Roses are loud, difficult, and utterly devoted to one another. Yechton captures something true about the way large families function: the way you learn to fight, to forgive, to hold the family together when no one else will. It's funny in the way real families are funny, and sad in the way real losses linger.
