We Didn't Do Anything Wrong, Hardly

Summer, 1958. Two boys build a spaceship from scrap metal and pure ambition, dreaming of the stars. What they find instead is far more terrestrial: a crashed Russian satellite, its instruments dead, its purpose mysterious. Naturally, they decide to take it home to fix it. After all, what's the harm? The boys' innocent salvage operation triggers an international incident when Soviet authorities notice their precious payload has vanished. As military vehicles swarm the quiet suburban streets, as generals scrutinize the boys' handwritten notes, the story becomes a perfect time capsule of Space Age paranoia. Yet beneath the Cold War comedy lies something timeless: the way children see the world as a place of infinite possibility, while adults see only threats. Roger Kuykendall captures the exact moment when childhood curiosity collides with adult anxiety, and somehow, the kids turn out to be more reasonable than the superpowers.
