Wanted: A Cookdomestic Dialogues

A freshly minted comedy of manners that proves the path to domestic bliss is paved with disastrous dinner parties. Archie and Letitia Fairfax arrive in New York City armed with romantic ideals about their elegant new home, only to discover that marriage involves a lot more negotiation than they bargained for - particularly when it comes to hiring help. The 'servant question' becomes their battlefield, and Anna Carter, the long-suffering cook they ultimately engage, quickly proves that running a refined household requires more than lofty aspirations and a copy of Emily Post. Dale's narrator is a marvel of pompous pretension, dropping references to Chaucer and Spenser while blithely avoiding his kitchen entirely, as if respectable young newlypeds could never be expected to acknowledge that food must somehow be prepared. The humor lands through the delicious gap between what this couple believes their life should look like and the chaotic reality unfolding around them. It's a shrewd little social critique disguised as light entertainment, capturing the particular anxieties of a generation that wanted sophistication without the slightest inconvenience.
