The Yacht Club; Or, the Young Boat-Builder
In the wind-touched waters of Penobscot Bay, a young boat-builder's dreams are about to meet the surf. Donald John Ramsay, called Don John, has spent his life learning the craft from his father in Belfast, hands rough with oak shavings and heart full of the sea. He longs to build yachts that can outrace any wind, and he longs for the approving smile of Miss Nellie Patterdale. The bay sparkles with opportunity: yacht races await, friendships bloom among the young sailing enthusiasts, and the future seems as wide as the open water. But when Don John's father falls gravely ill, the boy who dreamed of building the fastest boat on the coast must confront a heavier tide. The races continue. The wind does not wait. And somewhere between the dock and the sickroom, Don John must decide what kind of man he will become. A rousing tale of youthful ambition, first love, and the responsibilities that arrive before we're ready for them.
