The Whore: A Poem

The Whore: A Poem, published in 1782 by the Whore of Quality, is a satirical exploration of sexuality, societal hypocrisy, and gender dynamics in 18th-century England. The poem critiques the double standards faced by women labeled as 'whores,' highlighting the moral complexities of desire and the roles men play in women's degradation. Through various characters' stories, it questions the morality associated with sexual freedom and exposes the hypocrisy of religious and legal institutions that condemn women while allowing similar vices in men. This work serves as a significant commentary on the societal constructs surrounding sexuality and morality.
