The Voice in the Fog, published in 1923 by Henry Leverage, is a maritime novel set aboard the oil tanker 'Seriphus'. It follows Paul Richter, the chief engineer, whose ambition and protective instincts towards his daughter, Hylda, lead him to commit a violent act against her lover, Gathright. As the ship navigates treacherous waters, supernatural occurrences unfold, including Gathright's haunting voice, challenging Richter's morality and forcing him to confront the consequences of his actions. The novel explores themes of ambition, familial loyalty, and the darker sides of human nature within the shipping industry.
