The Stoneground Ghost Tales, published in 1912 by E.G. Swain, is a collection of supernatural short stories featuring the Reverend Roland Batchel, a clergyman in the fictional village of Stoneground. The tales blend humor and haunting elements, often reflecting local history and its inhabitants. Notable for its charm and wit, this collection pays tribute to Swain's friend M.R. James and has been a favorite among ghost story enthusiasts. The book includes an introduction by Cardinal Cox and an obituary of the author, along with various eerie tales that explore the mysteries of the parish.

“Those who turn the instruments of science upon Nature will always be in danger of seeing more than they looked for. There is such a disaster as that of knowing too much, and at some time or another it may overtake each of us.””
— E. G. Swain
