The Scape-Goat: A Farce in One Act
1826
The Scape-Goat: A Farce in One Act, written by John Poole and first published in 1826, is a comedic play that explores themes of love, misunderstanding, and societal constraints during the Regency era in Britain. The plot follows Charles, a young man who confesses his love to his tutor, Ignatius Polyglot, while concealing his secret marriage to Harriet. As misunderstandings arise, particularly due to the meddling servant Molly, the farce culminates in humorous revelations that challenge societal norms regarding education and romance.
