
The Pirates of Ersatz is a science fiction novel by Murray Leinster, published in 1959 in Astounding Science Fiction. The story follows Bron Hoddan, a young man from the pirate planet of Zan, who aspires to be an electronic engineer on the civilized planet Walden. After his invention accidentally causes a man's death, Hoddan becomes embroiled in a series of absurd adventures, highlighting the tension between creativity and conformity in society. The novel combines humor with social commentary and is reminiscent of the works of Harry Harrison.
