The story opens in the wind-battered fishing village of Greenport, where a fierce storm has left more than wreckage in its wake. There's talk of a missing boat, of tragedy on the water, and of an old robbery that still shadows the town. But young Jack Holden sees opportunity in the aftermath. The Sea-Lark, a stranded sloop nobody else wants, could be his ticket to something real - a ferry service to the island, honest work, a future built with his own hands. With his friend George at his side, Jack throws himself into the grueling task of refloating and restoring the abandoned boat. But Greenport holds secrets, and as the boys work, mystery begins to stir. A long-lost bag, stolen from Jack's father years ago, surfaces - and suddenly the honest labor of two ambitious boys becomes entangled with the shadows of the past.
