Full-Back Foster
Myron Warrenton Foster arrives at Parkinson School in September with every reason to feel pleased with himself. Handsome, well-built, and certain of his own brilliance, he steps off the train radiating the kind of confidence that makes other boys want to knock him down a peg. But prestige has a way of leveling the playing field. Due to a registration error, Myron is assigned a roommate: Joe Dobbins, a rough-edged boy who doesn't seem to care about Myron's carefully cultivated self-image. As if the cramped quarters weren't punishment enough, Myron must navigate a new world where his money and looks won't automatically buy him a place on the football team, let alone a social standing. The game becomes his crucible. On the field, he'll discover what he's really made of, and in Joe, he may find the friend he never expected. This is old-fashioned school story at its best: a tale of vanity meeting reality, and the humbling (and ultimately rewarding) process of growing up.
