The Lanchester Tradition

The Lanchester Tradition, written by G. F. Bradby and first published in 1913, is a school story set in the fictional Chiltern School. The narrative follows Mr. Flaggon as he navigates the challenges of becoming headmaster after Dr. Gussy's resignation, balancing the school's traditions with the need for reform. The novel explores themes of authority, educational governance, and the tensions between staff over changes in curriculum, reflecting early 20th-century attitudes toward education in Great Britain.
