The Jazz Singer

The Jazz Singer is a play written by Samson Raphaelson, first published in 1925. It tells the story of Jack Robin, a young man caught between his passion for jazz music and the expectations of his Orthodox Jewish family, particularly his father, Cantor Rabinowitz. The play explores themes of identity, cultural heritage, and the struggle for personal dreams against familial obligations. The narrative highlights the tension between tradition and modernity, which is further exemplified by its adaptation into the groundbreaking 1927 film that marked the transition to sound in cinema.
