The Independence Day Horror at Killsbury

On a seemingly perfect Independence Day in the town of Killsbury, the Cornwallis family gathers for their annual celebration, with the beautiful young boy Laurens at its center. The day promises the pomp and tradition of a bittersweet birthday, but danger lurks behind the patriotic revelry. When the wealthy and reckless Millionaire Schwarmer begins distributing dangerous explosives to children, the festivities take a devastating turn that will alter Laurens's life forever. This early 20th-century cautionary tale was written in the spirit of Progressive Era reform literature, urgently exposing the hidden horrors behind America's beloved Independence Day traditions. Coolidge weaves a poignant narrative that traces the shattering of innocence through adult negligence, crafting a story that remains disturbingly relevant as modern debates about fireworks safety continue. The novel stands as both a period artifact of social reform fiction and a stark reminder of the price paid when celebration overrides caution.
