The Further Adventures of Mr. Verdant Green, an Oxford Under-Graduate: Being a Continuation of "The Adventures of Mr. Verdant Green, an Oxford Freshman

Oxford's most endearingly foolish son returns in this gleeful Victorian campus comedy. Verdant Green, no longer quite so green, has survived his first term at Oxford, but his talent for finding trouble remains gloriously intact. Now an undergraduate with slightly more confidence and considerably more mischief, he and his rascal friend Bouncer turn their attention to the fresh crop of naive newcomers, including the magnificently unprepared Mr. James Pucker, who faces an examination of absurdly comic proportions. Cuthbert Bede, writing from Punch and drawing his own delighted illustrations, captures the peculiar world of Oxford student life: its boisterous humor, its harmless cruelties, its rituals of onboarding and hoodwinking new arrivals. The result is a period piece that feels remarkably fresh, a celebration of youthful folly that knows exactly how foolish it's being.
